Client Background

How a fast-growing marketplace replaced ad-hoc SQL exports with a live warehouse feeding investor-ready dashboards.

The Challenge

Before every investor update, the founding team spent days manually pulling numbers from the app database, the payments provider, and marketing platforms into a spreadsheet — and supply/demand imbalances were only noticed after conversion had already dropped.

Our Approach

We designed a lightweight but extensible data warehouse in Snowflake, prioritizing speed to insight over theoretical completeness given the startup's pace of change. Ingestion pipelines were built in Python with incremental loads to keep near-real-time freshness without overloading the production database.

Implementation

The dashboard layer tracked GMV, take rate, and cohort retention at the top level, with a dedicated supply/demand balance view that flagged categories and regions trending toward imbalance before it affected conversion. The founders could self-serve investor updates directly from the dashboard.

Results

  • Investor reporting prep time dropped by 90%
  • Supply gaps are now caught weekly instead of discovered after the fact
  • GMV and cohort retention are visible in real time to the full leadership team
